Higher Ground Trips is an outreach to Middle & High school kids looking for an exciting adventure while building their faith in God. They enjoy a 1 week low impact backpacking trip (10 days with travel) through the beautiful Colorado mountains in a 60 square mile area of the Wemimuche wilderness. The trip is led by Mike Farley and Jason Lokey and sponsored by Singing Oaks Church of Christ. It is life changing, but very easily the most rewarding experience of a teens life!
Mike experienced his first trip as a high school student in 1979 - Outerlimits (3 week Christian trip sponsored by Broadway Church of Christ). He fell in love with God's wilderness and the impact that it can have on changing teenagers lives. Since 1981 he has either assisted or led group trips for teenagers and college students in either California or Colorado yearly. He is a graduate of NOLS Mountaineering 5 week course in Wyoming in 1985. He has also been EMT certified in California (1990 - with backpacking emphasis) and was certified in Wilderness First Aid through NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute (2014-2019). Mike and Jason teamed up taking the High Pointe Church of Christ teens to Colorado in 2003 and has worked together ever since. Jason also is certified in Wilderness First Aid through NOLS.
